I am a ceramic artist working near Pasadena, California. I make unique, original sculpture and functional items to use in the home, building each piece from clay slabs rather than on a potter’s wheel. My work process welcomes elements of surprise that can guide the ultimate form of my idea into new directions. I work with clay not to copy nature, but to learn from it—to feel more alive myself: by listening and responding, by discovering color, by imposing and revising texture. It is a challenge to manipulate this inert material to evoke movement, beauty, pain, decay, and growth. Hard and durable though it is, fired clay can look as if it has just shifted, or opened—as if it might be aware of your touch. The final piece becomes a record of a living process of exploration.
I hope these artworks serve you well and invite you to explore journeys of joy in your own life.
